Soccer time

Opening day of soccer league was my idea of a perfect day – periods of pouring rain, lots of puddles and plenty of mud. The parents didn’t look so happy, but my peeps and I were. Like I said to my coach: “Boys are made for the rain.”
Mommy and daddy are thrilled to see how into the game I am, considering last year I didn’t like anyone watching me and prefered chewing on my shirt to making goals. Now I’m all over the field and enjoying every clap, hoot and holler.

Row, row, row your boat …

… not so gently down the stream. More like bumpy, wet and a little scary too. Mommy, daddy and I took a five-mile canoe ride down the Farmington River earlier this week. It was supposed to be a relaxing, leisurely trip, but when we slammed into the first big rock just 10 minutes into the ride, I got a little spooked. Then when we got stuck sideways in the “rock garden” soon after, I was ready to head for shore.  I wasn’t scared at all when we went white water rafting this summer, but we had a professional manning the rear. For this trip, I had mommy yelling “steer right” and daddy steering left instead.

Anyway, we made it down the river without capsizing. Mommy wants to get a raft for next year, but she’ll be sailing solo.

Back to school

I was off to the first grade today.

I was up at 6 a.m. and ready to go. I had my outfit all laid out: new sneakers, T-Rex polo shirt (I’ve been saving it all summer) and a new fluffy sweatshirt Mommy surprised me with the night before since it’s only 45 – 50 degrees when I get on the bus.  I wanted to wear my shiny red soccer shorts, but mommy nixed that idea, so I wore the same size 3T dress(ier) shorts I’ve been wearing for years.

The morning was fairly uneventful. Everyone was running on time. Mommy has some weird infection or skin thing around her eyes, so she looked like a puffy Chinese lady (see photo below). My backpack weighed more than me since I had to bring my lunch, a snack, and all my allergy-related stuff, like a box of special cupcakes for class parties and two boxes of epi-pens and Benadryl bottles.  I have to sit at a special table at lunch — it has a big picture of a peanut with a line through it. My friend Gavin sits there too, and our friends came by to visit. Mommy doesn’t want me to feel sad or excluded, but I thought it was fun. What I’m most excited about is buying school lunch this Friday for the first time. It’s pizza day!
